Maude
I write regularly for the sexual wellness brand Maude, from investigating the odd link between sex cults and the cutlery industry to examining why so many people find doctors and nurses so attractive. I’ve looked into Shakespeare’s smuttiest gags, ancient Egypt’s most salacious rumours, Victorian flogging enthusiasts… My search history is a nightmare, let me tell you.
Dollar Shave Club
I write regularly for global razor behemoth Dollar Shave Club, primarily contributing entertaining, vigorously-researched articles about masculinity, hygiene and the human body, but also writing the occasional off-topic newsletter about, say, what makes pumpkins so dang spooky.
Comedy Central
I spent a year creating content for Comedy Central UK’s website – I wrote articles, devised quizzes, scripted videos and created social assets. I also did as many illustrations as I could get away with, interviewed as many celebrities as I could and did the occasional voiceover.
ITV
As part of ITV’s Real Time Studio, I worked across the social feeds of all four ITV channels, doing everything from livetweeting SoccerAid to filming gags with Carol Vorderman to coming up with strategies for pushing specific shows to reminding millions of viewers the clocks had changed.
Tesco / Tesco Real Food
Working with the agency Zone, I wrote a huge amount of topical food jokes for Tesco’s social feeds. On Pancake Day they fell a bit flat, but at Christmas it was worth pudding in the effort. (They were better than that.) I also worked with Cedar Communications, contributing to Tesco Real Food’s website, print magazine and social feeds – editing recipes, briefing illustrators, commissioning bloggers and managing minor crises.
Shared Parental Leave / ShortList
I am extremely passionate about working life making sense for parents, something which is slowly improving. Shortly after becoming a father, I wrote an advertorial for the government’s Shared Parental Leave campaign, which was published on ShortList’s website.
Bridgestone / ShortList
Did you know the UK was once hit by 110,000 lightning strikes in one 24-hour period? You would if you read the advertorial I wrote for Bridgestone’s weather control tyres, published in ShortList. Also, in 1923, the isle of Islay had 89 straight days of rain. THAT IS TOO MANY!
Brita / ShortList
Not a lot of people get to write for Sir David Attenborough. And I didn’t! I did, however, write a script for a ShortList video featuring a professional Sir David soundalike as he observes the needless plastic use of a modern gentleman – single-use plastic he wouldn’t need if he just got himself a Brita Style Water Filter Jug…
Numan
I wrote a series of articles for men’s health startup Numan looking at the complicated relationships men have with certain parts of their bodies – while light-hearted, these touched upon issues like body image anxiety, sex therapy and what nicknaming your genitals might really mean.
Bicester Village / Gentleman’s Journal
Bicester Village is a high-end shopping destination in Oxfordshire, filled with luxury goods and designer clothes. I’m more of a jeans and hoodie guy, but still had a lot of fun doing an advertorial for the place incorporating time travel, knobbly knees and the idea of wearing a plastic bag with a tie drawn on it in Sharpie.
Virgin Media
I worked with Redwood London (now Redwood BBDO) to produce articles about wrestling, blacksmithing and elephants – two subjects I already knew a lot about and one I briefly became very into. I won’t reveal which one that was, but I did consider buying an anvil.
Talentful
As someone who was working from home for at least a year before everyone else jumped on the bandwagon, I was delighted to help Talentful out (via the Uncanny Valley agency) with tips for the newly WFH.
Currys PC World
I worked on an industrial amount of scripts for Hangar Seven’s instructional videos for Currys PC World.
World Metal Congress
I ran the social media accounts for the first ever World Metal Congress, a global get-together of experts in making a racket.
And more…
I have also worked on sponsored content for Ubisoft, BrewDog and Entertainment One. I worked on the social feeds of photography startup Triggertrap, and provided social media consultancy for one of my favourite podcasts. I did a bit of work for an NFT startup. And there’s probably more! But the most exciting project of all is probably the one you’re about to email me about. Looking forward to it!
